I am Alexa Laboy, an East Harlem, New York native who recently moved to Georgia. I currently work as a College Counselor, and most of my career has been in college access, admissions, diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice. I received my Bachelor’s from Gettysburg College, my master’s from Baruch College, and finished my dissertation research at Clark Atlanta University. My degrees are in Africana studies, Higher Education Administration, and Higher Education Leadership. I am passionate about closing the degree attainment gap for students from historically excluded and marginalized backgrounds, specifically first-generation college students, low-income students, and students of color. This is my passion because I am a Puerto Rican, first-generation college graduate. It is imperative not to be a gatekeeper for students who want access to higher education and to ensure they have the services and support to get to and through college.
Some fun facts about me: I have a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do, I have a two-and-a-half-year-old son named Kaius, whose name was inspired by my favorite movie series, Twilight, and I am a die-hard Yankee fan.
