Negotiators and the U.S. Department of Education are engaged in a negotiated rulemaking process RIGHT NOW that should strengthen protections for students nationwide, and they need to hear from you!

Up for discussion, negotiators will attempt to find consensus on restoring the gainful employment (GE) rule. Issued in 2014, the federal GE Rule ensured that career-education programs left their graduates with debts that were affordable relative to their actual incomes, while also providing consumers with key information about program costs and outcomes. Unfortunately, the last administration immediately halted the regulation upon taking office, then officially rescinded the rule in 2019.

If you have burdensome student loan debt and struggled to repay after graduating or leaving college or have had difficulty securing employment (underemployment, unemployment, or employment not within your specific field, etc.) your story can make a difference!
