Dr. Chong currently is the Superintendent/President Emeritus at Santa Rosa Junior College, retiring in July 2023. Prior to joining Santa Rosa Junior College as president/superintendent in January 2012, Dr. Chong served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Community Colleges at the U.S. Department of Education. He has previously served as president of Laney College; president of Mission College; dean of student affairs at San Francisco City College; special assistant to Willie Brown, speaker of the California Assembly; and as an experienced administrator for multiple non-profit organizations. Dr. Chong currently serves on the boards of Pepperwood Preserve and the Sonoma County Health Alliance and is a former president and founding member of the national advocacy organization Asian Pacific Americans in Higher Education. Dr. Chong is CEO of ChongmattersLLC, which advises on higher ed issues. Dr. Chong has a BA from UC Berkeley, an MPA from Harvard University, and a PhD in educational administration, leadership and technology from Dowling College.
