Beth Stein joined TICAS in October 2018 after having served in senior positions in the United States Senate and the House of Representatives. From 2015 to 2018 Beth served as Senator Patty Murray’s General Counsel on the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP). Previously she served as both Legislative Director to Senator Tom Harkin and as Chief Oversight Counsel of the HELP Committee, where she led Senator Harkin’s landmark two-year investigation into the impact of for-profit colleges on students and taxpayers. During her 20 years in the Senate and the United States House of Representatives, Beth worked on legislation and oversight efforts across a range of higher education and other consumer and civil rights issues including Senate passage of the Affordable Care Act and the accompanying Student Aid and Fiscal Responsibility Act; The Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments; the HELP America Vote Act and the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act.
