Coalition Letter of Support for California SB 1006

As convener of the Californians for College Affordability coalition, TICAS submitted this coalition letter to California Governor Gavin Newsom on critical investments his administration can make in the FY 2026-27 state budget to meaningfully advance higher education affordability, equity, and attainment. 

TICAS submitted a letter to CA legislative budget committee and subcommittee on education chairs Senator Laird, Senator Pérez, Assemblymember Gabriel, and Assemblymember Alvarez on critical investments the state can make in the FY 2026-27 state budget to meaningfully support higher education affordability, equity, and attainment.

TICAS and several members of its Californians for College Affordability coalition submitted a letter to the CA Senate Education Committee in support of CA Senate Bill 1006 (Padilla), which would ensure that the Cal Grant B access awards do not continue to lose purchasing power.

TICAs, alongside consumer and civil rights groups, submitted a letter that urges California budget leaders to strengthen the state's primary regulatory agency for private proprietary education institutions, and calls for maintaining key student loan borrower protections.

TICAS joined a Californians for College Affordability Coalition letter calling for state legislators to make key investments in the final 2025-26 California state budget.

On April 18, 2025, TICAS joined the Financial Aid for All Coalition (FA4All) in a letter of support for Senate Bill 305, which would require California Community Colleges (CCC) to ensure that students complete the FAFSA or CADAA.
