Applications Open for TICAS Michigan Student Advocacy Fellowship

Applications are now open for the TICAS Michigan Student Advocacy Fellowship, an opportunity for students in Michigan to learn about and engage in state level policy change in higher education through a yearlong program. Interested students do not need to have prior interest or experience in policy to participate. Program participants will have the chance to learn about policy and serve as change agents on issues that impact students at the state level. The only requirement is that the student has graduated from a Michigan high school or completed a Michigan high school equivalent by July.

The selected fellows will identify a policy issue of interest, conduct research on the topic, and advocate for the topic to be included in the state budget as a cohort. The fellows will use TICAS’ network to educate and identify partners/allies to uplift and advocate for their issue. As part of the program, the fellows will participate in meetings with legislators, attend the Michigan College Access Network’s advocacy day (as their day on the capital), contribute to a student story media campaign with TICAS’ communications team, and receive professional mentorship.

This program has a 4-hour time commitment per week in July and August for policy training and about 4 hours per month September – June. Each participating student will be awarded funding of $3000, in the form of two $1500 grants, that they can use at their discretion.
