Last Chance to Take Action to Protect Students and Taxpayers
As we shared with you in August, the U.S. Department of Education has proposed new rules to protect students and taxpayers from rip-off career education programs, but those rules need to be stronger. This is an important opportunity to protect students from unmanageable debt, and we need you to act quickly if you haven't already.
Federal law requires career education programs that receive federal student aid to "prepare students for gainful employment in a recognized occupation." Too many of these programs are roping in students with deceptive marketing and aggressive sales tactics, providing substandard training, and leaving students deep in debt they can't pay back. By defining "gainful employment" for the first time, the proposed rules finally make it possible to enforce this important law. Learn more and take action.
The for-profit college industry and its highly paid lobbyists are fighting hard to weaken the proposed rules so exploitative schools can keep profiting off federal student aid. That's why the Obama Administration needs to hear from you now!
Visit www.protectstudentsandtaxpayers.org to call for stronger rules, and please help spread the word! We want to collect as many comments as we can by Tuesday, September 7 so that we can send them in to the Department by the September 9 deadline. Please take action today!
(If you have already sent in comments, thank you! There is no need to send in comments a second time, but please forward this to your friends.)
