It's been a busy year for TICAS, with major debates about college affordability and accountability - not to mention student loan interest rates! As always, we've been on the front lines, standing up for students and taxpayers.
Today, I'm writing to ask for your help. Like you, we're committed to seeing more low-income students get to and through college, and to reducing the burdens of student debt.
Your voice is crucial to our success. When there's a chance to make financial aid work better for the students who need it most, we know we can count on you. And when access and success are threatened, you help us fight for what's right.
Last week we told you about our latest findings, which made headlines around the country: 71% of college seniors are graduating with loans, and their average debt has topped $29,000. We're working harder than ever to improve federal loan repayment options like IBR, which you helped us make a reality. To increase access to need-based aid like federal Pell Grants and state Cal Grants. To strengthen consumer protections for private loan borrowers. To help students and families make informed decisions about college costs and debt. And that's just the short list.
Every day, we work to make college more affordable, student debt more manageable, and success more possible - nationally and in California. But we can't do it without you.
As 2013 comes to a close, I want to thank you for speaking out when it matters, and giving when you can. I hope we can count on your continued support.
Please make a year-end donation today and help keep TICAS on the front lines in 2014!
