Scaling Student Success: A National Proposal
Increasing postsecondary attainment offers tremendous promise for increasing social mobility, tackling poverty, and reducing racial and income inequality. Over the past decade, colleges and non-profit organizations across the country have pioneered new and more comprehensive ways to help their students succeed in completing a degree or credential. Centered around a human dimension, such as a counselor, these programs connect students with the financial, academic, and personal support they need to make it through college. Rigorous research has validated that these model programs are having a major impact, dramatically increasing college persistence and attainment and student earnings, and have the potential to address the completion crisis facing America’s colleges.
On January 21, 2021, TICAS unveiled a bold new $1 billion proposal for scaling comprehensive student success initiatives, and ultimately double the number of first-generation, low-income, Black, Indigenous, and Latino students who graduate from college.
