Supporting Success for Parenting Students at Rural-Serving Institutions
This report explores how rural-serving institutions (RSIs) currently support parenting students and identifies opportunities to strengthen student success. Student parents face significant barriers to college completion—especially in rural areas. Our analysis shows only 32% of public RSIs offer on-campus childcare, compared to 52% of public non-RSIs.
Drawing on student support examples from RSIs across the country, we offer recommendations for federal policymakers to expand effective interventions that support parenting students’ ability to complete a credential.
