California Economy Missing up to $500 Million Due to Low Financial Aid Application Rates and Community Colleges
New research shows that hundreds of thousands of California Community College students are eligible for federal Pell Grants but do not apply, leaving up to $500 million unclaimed in 2009-10. The analysis looks at other trends in financial aid application and receipt at the California community colleges, making comparisons to the state’s other higher education sectors as well as to community college students in the rest of the nation.
