Statement on Bipartisan Senate Action to Close the 90/10 Loophole
“The Institute for College Access & Success commends the U.S. Senate, as part of the American Recovery Act of 2021, for acting to close the 90/10 loophole contributing to the exploitation of veterans and military-connected students. Better capturing taxpayers’ investments will help identify and address risky colleges.
“For far too long, the federal 90/10 rule has unwittingly enabled the exploitation of veterans by risky for-profit schools that cannot demonstrate financial support from their students, states, or local employers. Today’s bipartisan action by Congress will help undercut the aggressive recruitment efforts of for-profit colleges at a vulnerable time in the pandemic, and better protect low-income students, women, and students of color, along with the veterans most directly impacted.”
